The explorations of Stuart eventually resulted in the 1863 annexation of a huge area of country to the Government of South Australia. This area became known as the Northern Territory. This is the first in a series of pieces that will explore who John McDouall Stuart was, the era in which he lived… and some of the uncertainty concerning his legacy.
